Art Curator Paris Kapralos, in collaboration with 18 visual artists from Greece and Cyprus, invites you to visit the exhibition “Ink on Paper,” the 10th installment of the series. The exhibition takes place in physical form in Athens, Greece from Friday, October 4, 2024, to Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the Alma Mater Art Gallery (Emmanouil Benaki 62, Exarchia, Athens), and simultaneously online in collaboration with ARTgrID
The opening of the exhibition will take place on the first day, Friday, October 4, from 19:00 to 22:00. The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, prints, and art objects created with ink and paper.
In the curatorial note, Mr. Kapralos writes: “Ink, or 'melani' as we commonly call it today, is a colored liquid used in writing, printing, and painting. It derives from the ancient Greek word 'melas' (=black) because the first color used was black. If we write that 'Human history has been written in ink,' most people will think of books. Much earlier, human memory was painted on the rocks of caves with ink, long before the concept of writing was invented. A hundred thousand years ago, humans first painted and then, gradually, wrote down what needed to be preserved. Since the 15th century, when paper became a common commodity in Europe, artists adopted it, and the history of paper and ink merged into a bouquet of arts. Today, visual artists produce, with great stylistic diversity, a series of experiments depending on each one’s starting point, works of unique sensitivity, often unexpected, that surprise with their approaches. The international trend of water-soluble ink, colored or black, serving as an alternative medium to traditional paints for painters, the excellent handmade and industrial papers available to printmakers and painters from all over the world, make the approaches to the Art of ink on paper one of the most renewed and interesting approaches in contemporary visual arts.”
Participating visual artists: Anna Gkioti, Ilias Kasselas, Maria Genitsariou, Dimitris Galanakis, Olga Barmazi, Dimitris M. Moschos, Natalia Kazirelova, Ioannis Vlachos, Andriana Smpyraki, Grigoris Kokkoris, Evmorfia Efstathiou, Argirios Giannakos, Irini Klidara, Paraskevi Alexi, Eftychia Linara, Anastasia Bozatzi, Anda Kontodimou, Styliani Tsakiri.
