The Aichi Triennale Organizing Committee is delighted to announce the appointment of Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation, as the Artistic Director of Aichi Triennale 2025. Hoor Al Qasimi was chosen for the following compelling reasons. With an impressive record of international curation, including her renowned work with the Sharjah Biennale, Hoor Al Qasimi is poised to establish Aichi Triennale as a globally acclaimed art festival. Holding the position of President of the International Biennial Association (IBA), Hoor Al Qasimi's extensive global connections within the art world will elevate Aichi's presence on the international stage. As the first foreign Artistic Director of Aichi Triennale, Hoor Al Qasimi will bring a new and exciting outlook, ensuring that the art festival embraces innovative dimensions. Drawing from her significant leadership roles as President of an art foundation, Hoor Al Qasimi brings exceptional skills in guiding and managing organizations. With these exceptional qualities, Hoor Al Qasimi is well-positioned to lead the Aichi Triennale towards artistic excellence, sparking inspiration and captivating audiences worldwide.
Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation, is an accomplished curator who founded the Foundation in 2009 to promote and advocate for the arts not only in Sharjah, UAE but also globally. With a strong commitment to supporting innovation and experimentation, she has expanded the Foundation's scope to encompass international touring exhibitions, residencies for artists and curators, commissions, grants, performances, architectural research, and educational programs across all age groups. She co-curated Sharjah Biennial 6 (2003) and has continued as Biennial Director, curating Sharjah Biennial 15 (2023). She also holds the positions of President of the International Biennial Association, President of The Africa Institute, and President and Director of the Sharjah Architecture Triennial. Previously, she served as a board member for MoMA PS1, New York, and the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, among others.
The Aichi Triennale, held once every three years since 2010, stands as one of Japan's foremost international art festivals. Showcasing a diverse array of Japanese and global artists, the festival unfolds across various locations in Aichi Prefecture, including the Aichi Arts Center. Focused on contemporary art, the event transcends genre boundaries, spanning performing arts, learning programs, and other domains to communicate the spirit of artistic diversity emanating from the Aichi region.
