IWS Greece & IWS Kosovo | "All that unite us" Open Call for watercolor visual artists

IWS Greece in collaboration with IWS Kosovo invites visual artists who have watercolor as a main means of art expression, to submit paintings with which they would like to participate in the international exhibition held in two cities (Athens, Greece & Pristina, Kosovo), in physical form in estabished art galleries, and at the same time virtually online on the ARTgrID platform. The exhibition in Athens will be curated by Art Curator Paris Kapralos, and in Pristina by IWS Globe General Manager Besnik Xhemaili (who will also attend the exhibition in Athens). The general coordinator of the event is the IWS Greece Leader Mr. Foti Kllogjeri.

Concept. It is often said that we do not understand the value of a thing until we lose it. During the pandemic we lost or were in danger of losing a lot: loved ones, our health, but above all human contact, the ability to travel, to share things daily and important. From this miserable period we come out wiser. Let us remember all that unites us. And let us build new bridges between us. Let art be our guide.

Theme and type of artworks. We accept water-soluble paintings on paper media (watermedia, inks, watercolors, water pencils, powders, natural water-soluble dyes, as well as alternative media - e.g. tea, coffee, etc.). Artworks can focus on things, situations, activities, urban landscape, or reference points of things that we missed most during the pandemic period, or be totally abstract of this is your style of painting.

Artworks dimensions. Only framed artworks on paper are accepted in this exhibition. The largest side of the frame of each project should not exceed 70 cm. A frame means a frame made of slats of wood, or synthetic material, of a quality of your choice, preferably in a neutral color. Attention: patents such as works glued to a cardboard base, "sandwiches" made of plexiglass sheets, and other similar constructions are not consider tyo be frames and they are NOT accepted.

Selection of artworks. The artworks will be selected based on their quality independently of the type and style of each artist, dependent on the originality and perfection of the visual processing of the theme freely chosen by their creator, in each style. The exhibition will select works and not artists: thus, it is possible to submit 3 works and we select one or two or all for exhibition.

Physical exhibitions in Athens & Kosovo. The Athens exhibition will feature all the works of artists living and working in Greece selected, and a small number of select works by distinguished Kosovar artists. After the end of the exhibition, one artwork by each Greek artist will be sent to Kosovo to be exhibited in the second exhibition which will take place within the first quarter of 2022. All artworks in both exhibitions will be for sale. Following the exhibition in Kosovo, works by Greek artists that have not been sold will be returned to collection points in Athens and Thessaloniki, from where participants can pick them up.

Online exhibitions in parallel with the events in Athens & Kosovo. During the physical exhibition in both Athens and Kosovo, a parallel online exhibition will take place on the ARTgrID platform in Greek & English.

Who can submit for the artshow in Athens. All visual artists who have reached the age of 18 and reside permanently in Greece, regardless of nationality, can apply. The selection criterion is the quality, the originality and the conception of the works, not the age, typical studies or the CV.

If you are selected you can only exhibit the artworks you have submitted, otherwise your participation will be canceled.

  • Description of the artworks, with a reference point for each of the photo's file name (eg DSC9888.JPG) that should be written in this order separated by commas: Photographic file name, Artist name, artwork title, media, dimensions (in cm, always Height X Width), Date of completion.
