Soul Food Tinos | Anarchy and Rebirth

On the 7th July, 2018, Soul Food will open it’s multi-use art space in Tinos . The space will include an incubator, gift store, gallery, reading room and covered terrace (lounge) for live music and performances. Soul Food continues from last year when it presented Art Unexpected in Isternia, Tinos. An exhibition which uses non-used/abandoned spaces to showcase art.

The 2017 theme focused on creating conversations about the effects of war, mass exoduses, and the corresponding neighbours we gain. Named "Black and White: Exploring Inner Spaces" asked the viewer to investigate possibilities, that exist within pre-determined limits. This year’s Theme Anarchy + Rebirth starts a conversation about change. We provide the conversation's starting point. The answers come from artists and audience. Soul Food is located in the heart of the island (Terre) and will create experiences throughout the island (Trochiá/satellite). At each of the proposed trochiá, there will be something unexpected: a performance, music, art. Soul Food is about the experience, about creating conversations and experiences. It invites the public to discover special spaces in order to rediscover themselves. In many conversations, one person speaks. In this converstaion, we are the listener. It is the audience who will create the story.

Our programming will involve many ways in which one can interact. Art will include a wide range of mediums including photographs, collages, drawings, paintings, contemporary art, clothing, music and sound installations. Georgia, the founder was born in Jamaica. She spent her adult life in Harlem, New York. On her first visit to Greece, she stayed for 6 weeks instead of the 4-day journey she originally planned. When asked “ Why Tinos?” Her response is "It is Tinos that made the decision". This journey started on a rainy day in Isternia, and has led here She is the brainchild of the brand Soul Sista and the lifestyle store Xukuma, (a design shop in New York, which closed 2008).
